Seattle free agent wide receiver D.J. Hackett is scheduled to visit One Buccaneer Place on Thursday. The Bucs signed WR Antonio Bryant earlier this week, but still are interested in Hackett, who is well versed in the West Coast offense.

The Buccaneers have expressed interest in Seattle Seahawks free agent wide receiver D.J. Hackett ever since free agency began on Feb. 29.

However, Hackett was not brought to Tampa for a visit, but that was until Wednesday when PewterReport.com learned that Hackett was scheduled to visit One Buccaneer Place on Thursday.

A former fifth-round draft pick out of Colorado, Hackett has spent the first four years of his career in Seattle, where he caught 105 passes for 1,394 yards (13.3 avg.) and nine touchdowns.

While Hackett has the speed and hands the Bucs are looking for at the receiver position, he has had trouble staying healthy throughout his career.

In fact, Hackett, 26, has missed a total of 31 regular season games over the past four seasons due to various injuries.

Last season, Hackett caught 32 passes for 384 yards and three touchdowns while playing in just six games due to a sprained ankle.

Still, the 6-foot-2, 208-pound Hackett is a productive receiver when he is healthy, and he's also well versed in the West Coast offense, which Tampa Bay sees tremendous value in.

The timing to Hackett's visit could be surprising to some given the fact that Tampa Bay signed free agent WR Antonio Bryant to a contract on Monday.

In addition to Bryant, the Bucs have veteran wide receivers Joey Galloway, Ike Hilliard, Michael Clayton, Maurice Stovall and Paris Warren under contract for the 2008 season.

The Bucs aren't the only team interested in signing Hackett, who is scheduled to visit Carolina after he meets with Tampa Bay.

A healthy Bryant Johnson seems like a much better alternative to Hackett, considering they will come with a similar price tag.

Another "injury prone" player like Patrick Chukwura. Let's hope not.

Okay sign him. but i don't think that we get any closer to a younger "Joey Galloway" . Via the Pewter Report and many "Sound Off" responders (which I do enoy reading other peoples opinion's), I have surrendered that we do need a younger, fast speedster. I don't think that there is anyone out there in free agency that is another Joey Galloway. If memory serves me right didn't we trade Keyshan Johnson for Galloway? In other words, another trade might have to happen. We do have some positions that we have quality players that we could trade and still fill that position .
Example could be Safety, Offensive Lineman, and maybe a semi damaged running back by the name of Williams.
Disagree with me, it's okay, but don't attack the person who gives their opinion.
Go Bucs

bucfan47- boldin would be a great add-who knows what will happen with the other recievers in ARZ after fitz got all that cash.hackett worries me.two weeks ago i would have said sign him,now im not so sure.i would rather we add bryan johnson than hackett.but boldin would be a no brainer.theres alot of time left for things to happen-colmans still out there and has to be almost free by now.-bucs brass might be smokescreening by putting focus on WRs so we can get a steal on a free agent in another position of need.theres also guys who are good adds who will be cut after the draft.(we will have a better offense this season)

DOUGLAS TO BUCS

With Kevin Carter released and likely not coming back, the Bucs have filled that hole by signing free-agent defensive end Marques Douglas.

Sign him, we can't have too many guys with potential. I actually think this guy would be a good fit and an immediate help. This guy and maybe Bouldin.....hmmmmm........might work out. Starting to look acheiveable for next year.

Need tickets to Atl, Detroit, and Chicago. Maybe even Charlotte. Since I live in KY I have to be a road team fan.

GO BUCSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
