The Green Bay Packers reportedly have talked to several teams regarding the possibility of trading QB Brett Favre, and many pundits believe the Buccaneers are one of the teams interested in acquiring Favre. Bucs G.M. Bruce Allen addressed those rumors on Tuesday.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers plan on taking five quarterbacks to training camp when they report to Celebration Hotel on Friday.
However, many believe the Bucs could be interested in adding another one to their roster.
The Green Bay Packers have talked to several teams, including some NFC clubs, regarding the possibility of trading retired quarterback Brett Favre, according to NFL.com.
Favre, 38, retired from the NFL in March, but recently made it known that he wishes to play football again in 2008. The Packers have said they've moved on and intend on starting Aaron Rodgers at quarterback, which is why the Packers reportedly are attempting to find out what level of interest other teams have in trading for the future Hall of Fame quarterback.
Many pundits have suggested that the Buccaneers could be one of the teams interested in acquiring Favre, who completed 66.5 percent of his passes for 4,155 yards and tossed 28 touchdowns and 15 interceptions en route to leading the Packers to a 13-3 regular season record and an appearance in the NFC Championship Game in 2007.
While Tampa Bay hasn't been shy about acquiring quarterbacks due to the rash of injuries the team has suffered at that position since head coach Jon Gruden's arrival in 2002, the Bucs aren't saying much regarding the Favre rumors.
"We'll let the Packers talk for their team," Bucs general manager Bruce Allen said. "I think they've been very forthcoming with their thoughts lately and we'll let them discuss their situation."

Would be real easy for B. Allen to say..."We're not interested!" That's gotta make "Jeffrey" even more disgruntled. Maybe he'll decide to attend the 30th Anniversary of his "Teamwork" Merit Badge from Boyscout Troop #408 after he leaves his daddy's function. HAHA!

Hate to say it, but I would rather see the Bucs at 8-8 with Favre at QB than one playoff game and out with Garcia at QB. Farve might not make the team better but he will make the team much more entertaining to watch. The cap room is available. Just get it done!

a) docbravo: Here's how it works with B. Allen. He likes to let everyone do the speculating and keep his cards close to the vest. In terms of competing with other teams for personnel, it benefits the team to not give away any info.
b) ganderson: you're just dumb.

I don't think BA can say much anyway because that would be tampering.

I like the obvious leadership and skill & not to mention the tuffness that Farve would bring to the table but in the same breath I like Garcia's time in Grudens system and he is a gritty player himself. My main concern for the up coming season is the D-line and the lace of pass rush that was not addressed inthe offseason. What happened to the Rod Coleman reports is that finished? we need a big nasty in the middle that will accompany Hovan in taking up two double teams to free up ht espped we have at end and line backers to kill the QB or stuff the run. Go Buc's.

This is a no lose situation. Favre is a better 38 year old quarterback than Garcia. The Bucs can afford him. This year is a "win now" year. They have potential to do so. I think, at 100% health, the difference in the two quarterbacks in negligible, but at the end of the day, Garcia cannot seem to stay healthy. Favre is much tougher physically. It makes sense on all angles - neither is a long term solution. Maybe a three way trade where the Packers send us Favre and we send Garcia to another team in need where he can start?

Lol, that's a fair statement Mustard. As for this subject, from reading between the lines from what Green Bay brass and B. Allen have had to say I'd say there's a 65% chance Farve ends up in Tampa. Dang it! Hurry and agree to a deal Garcia before the Allen takes his best offer off the table.
I'd rather start the season with Garcia and when he gets hurt replace him with McCown. Garcia, McCown and Griese know the offense and don't have Farve's ego. Once we put Farve in there he's not getting hurt; he's there to say and that's not a good thing...

Guys, this is not going to happen. Green Bay wants too much for him. We aren't going to give them a miminum of a second rd pick. Farve will just report to GB and win his position again. He shouldn't keep announcing he is retiring and then pull it back. He's under contract.
Get over it, Farve is not coming to TB. We both are in the NFC.
Go Bucs.

The only thing i'm worried about is Farve's wanting to play not for this year but next year? what happens if he feels he wants to retire again and the bucs give green bay maybe a player and a high draft choice(like a 2nd rounder)and get 1 year out of him, Would it be worth it? that is the question

Was the price paid for Jon Gruden too much for a Super Bowl Championship in 2002? Most people don't think so now, but there were lots of pundits that wanted the Bucs to write off 2002 and wait a year for Gruden's contract with Oakland to expire.
I think next year's 2nd round pick is a fair price for a realistic shot to go deep into the playoffs this year (and maybe next).
I like Garcia's ability, but I don't trust his durability.
Make it Happen!

To tell the truth... this could work out either way. When you look at Brett...you see a guy with a very quick release/ arm strength/ and vision. Garcia you see a guy with mobility and average talent, but possible upside if healthy. I would like to go with Favre but how well could he comprehend the playbook and lingo in a short time. The quick answer to me is go with McCown, he's young, quick, durable, healthy, mobile, great arm strength and has a lot of upside if he could just get more reps at the number 1 spot.
