The NFL has notified former Bucs LT Luke Petitgout, who was released from the PUP list on Aug. 16, that he will be suspended for the first four games of the 2008 season, according to Sportsline.com. Petitgout is attempting to recover from a knee injury he suffered in Week 4 of the 2007 season.

The National Football League has notified former Tampa Bay left tackle Luke Petitgout that he will be suspended for the first four games of the 2008 regular season, according to Sportsline.com.

According to Sportsline.com's report, the NFL has not announced why the four-game suspension has been handed down to Petitgout.

The Bucs released Petitgout from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list due to a failed physical on Aug. 16. He is attempting to work his way back from a partially torn ACL he suffered in Week 4 of the 2007 regular season.

The Bucs signed Petitgout to a three-year, $15 million contract that included a $3 million signing bonus during the '07 offseason. He started four games for the Bucs before suffering the season-ending knee injury, which required surgery.

Third-year veteran Donald Penn is projected to start at left tackle for the Bucs. He started 13 games, including the NFC Wild Card game, in Petitgout's place last year.

yea 4 games susp sounds like busted on steroids to me too....although you have to love a Vet on the O line the Bucs do not need an often injured/suspended tackle.

Well, that explains why Luke got released rather than merely held on the PUP list. It wouldn't surprise me if he got another chance with the team after serving the suspension provided he finally gets healthy, but it also wouldn't surprise me if Luke were gone for good... and if he does get another chance, he knows he'll have to take a pay cut to get it.

overpaid and overrated! $5 million a year for a headache. that $5 million could be spent on getting Hannah Montana for a halftime show!
