Tampa Bay is interviewing several candidates for its offensive coordinator position, including Ken Zampese, who has spent the past six seasons as the Cincinnati Bengals' quarterbacks coach. Zampese, who is the son of longtime NFL offensive coordinator Ernie Zampese, is scheduled to interview with the Bucs next week.
The Bucs interviewed candidates for both coordinator jobs in Mobile, Alabama earlier this week, but some candidates will meet with Tampa Bay over the next several days.
New Bucs head coach Raheem Morris and general manager Mark Dominik have been coy in their coaching search, but PewterReport.com has learned Cincinnati Bengals quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese is scheduled to interview for Tampa Bay's offensive coordinator job early next week.
Zampese, 41, has spent the past six seasons as Cincinnati's quarterbacks coach. He is the son of longtime NFL offensive coordinator Ernie Zampese, who served as offensive coordinator for the 1995 Super Bowl champion Dallas Cowboys.
Before he joined Cincinnati, Ken Zampese served as an offensive assistant with the St. Louis Rams in 2000 and was promoted to wide receivers coach in 2001. That year, the Rams led the league in passing yards for the second consecutive year. In his final year with the Rams, Zampese earned an additional title, passing game coach, and the Rams finished the '02 season ranked second in the league with 259.6 yards passing per game.
A former wide receiver return specialist at the University of San Diego, Zampese first embarked on his NFL coaching career in 1998 as an offensive assistant with the Eagles, working under then-head coach Ray Rhodes. He worked with Rhodes for one year in Philadelphia and Green Bay (1999) before joining St. Louis and eventually Cincinnati.
Zampese has spent five of his six seasons in Cincinnati working with one of the league's most efficient passers, Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer, a former first-round pick who became the fifth quarterback in the history of the NFL to throw 100 career touchdown passes in his first 59 games. The quickest to 100 TD throws was former Miami QB Dan Marino, who accomplished that feat in 44 contests.
Under the guidance of Zampese, Palmer also holds Bengals records for completion percentage (64.1), passer rating (90.1), single-season TD passes (32) and single-season passer rating (101.5).
Palmer isn't the only quarterback Zampese helped succeed in Cincinnati. In his first season with the Bengals (2003), Zampese worked closely with Jon Kitna, who completed 324 passes (62.3 percent) for 3,591 yards and tossed 26 touchdowns for a quarterback rating of 87.4.
In addition to Zampese, the Bucs are also interested in talking to former Rams head coach Scott Linehan and current Chiefs offensive coordinator Chan Gailey about their vacant offensive coordinator post.

Carson Palmer was the #1 pick out of college, and expected to be a stud. I think he would have been good no matter who his QB coach was.
How did Zampese do with a mediocre talent QB, like the Bucs have? Oh yeah, they went 4-11-1 with Ryan Fitzpatrick at QB.

gqstv68 - Nothing wrong with having hope, as anyone who's read my stuff over the past couple years can attest to that. But give me one reason to be optimistic? One reason...There's nothing you can point at specifically...You can make up stuff and talk about Gruden's struggles and this and that, but nothing leads me to believe at this point it's going to get better. These guys have ZERO experience and I'm not sold as others are that Raheem Morris will make a great coach. Time will tell, but I have never agreed with the move.

Someone please tell me what it is that Morris accomplished as our secondary coach that makes him such a clear choice for this position that you justify not even interviewing anyone else. After all, isn't this the same secondary coach who couldn't even instruct his unit that with 10 minutes left in the 4th quater against Oakland and a 10 point lead whatever you do don't get beat deep on the big play. They run a halfback pass and their's not even a defender within 20 yards of the receiver when the ball was thrown. Shouldn't he atleast share some of the responsibility for failing to have his unit prepared. This is the same guy who gets rewarded by being hired as head coach without a single interview? I'm not buying into the notion that ownership's motives were altruistic until they makes a serious run at some free agents this offseason and this guy shows what he has to deserve being a head coach in this league.

And no matter who is calling the shots, if we don't get in a few probowl caliber free agents and a good draft...we're doomed before training camp anyway.
GO BUCS!!!! Either get on the Pirate ship or back away from the dock cause we're moving on!!!

While it appears your philosophy in being a fan is to sit back like a puppet and give complete deference to ownerships decisions no matter what facts suggest otherwise, don't try to imply that others who present facts as the basis of concern about the reasoning behind the decision aren't as much of a fan as you. If you want to discuss the facts that you believe make this a quality decision, I am more than happy to sit back and listen to you. Otherwise, I've been bleeding red and pewter long enough that I don't need you to tell me who to root for.

All the Morris bashing is ridiculous,he has yet to really do anything. His coaching staff is under construction and he has yet to coach his first practice-yet some of you are already trying to run him outta town.Give the situation so time to evolve, then pass your judgement.Morris didnt TAKE Gru's job-Gru LOST it.The Glazers went for an inside guy.I believe the problems in our locker room were greatly understated and the Glazers thought bringing in a players coach was the right move. Our team was greatly destabilized by Kiff's departure and bringing in another celebrity coach might have further stressed a divided locker room.I believe this had a lot to do with the choice. Players at the end werent playing for Gru,hopefully these same guys will play for Heem.
Im sorry some of you feel wronged by the team for letting Gruden go,but it was time. This team needs a new direction and a new outlook.Time will tell if Heem was at least a good choice. But as the Dungy backers were told to give Gru a chance,I think the same has to happen for Morris.
Nothing is forever.Change is good.allow things a chance before you doom it to fail..
If we tank this season-you guys saw it coming, congratulations !
if we don't,I hope you like the taste of crow..
Remember that tanking this season will bring us a franchise QB in next years draft..So losing with Morris is still a win...

I will be excited about next year instead of whine about maybe not being good ....thats stupid.
This might be the best thing that ever happened to the BUCS
and until it fails (which i dont believe we will be worse than a 500. team....like Gruden's record) i'm gonna love every minute of it......Dont Worry.....Be Happy...........GO BUCS..!!!.

Almost every single Off player that has ever played for Gruden here has not had much good to say about and most of them have had alot more bad to say about him.The only Off players that havent said anything bad about Gruden are few and are the type of people that wont say anything bad about ANYBODY.Put down the "Gruden rose colored glass's" and start seeing what 95% of ALL BUC FANS have been seeing.
The amazing 53-50 coach is gone....get over it.

puppet...lol, i think not. if you read my rant again you'll see that i simply said that the decision has been made, morris and dominik are piloting this ship and lets (fans) move on past the whining about the decision and give them a chance because basically there's nothing that can be done about it through whining weeks later. actually when the story broke about the firing of gruden (which i was a fan of) my first reaction was to go after a bill cowher or high profile coach, i was a bit puzzled by hiring morris without him having experience at even the coordinator position, but after giving a couple days to sink in, it makes more sense to me and i'm going to give the change a chance as a fan. if i've learned anything from my 13 yrs in the Army, its this...some decisions, courses of action or plans i can influence, some i can't and after i've given my 2 cents to the decision makers and they go another way, i have to salute and move out no matter how much i disagree. i don't agree with our military still being in iraq or afghan, but i'll be heading back over there to do my job in march for the 2nd time. at the end of the day none of us fans were in the decision making process for the firing or hiring and if the Bucs are our team this is the new regime and lets give them our support and a chance to prevail or fail. i'll be the first one to ask wtf, if come this december, we are in last place in the division and nowhere close to the playoffs (even though i think with the current roster problems and coaching changes it will take at least 2 offseasons to right this ship). imo the day of retread, high priced coaches are over and more owners are attempting to give fresh talent and minds a chance. worked for the likes of the steelers, cards, falcons, ravens and dolphins (didn't hurt to have good coordinators either)
you may have bled pewter and red for a while, but i grew up in Pasco county (if you don't know where that is then you're obviously not from around the tampa area) and i attended USF prior to the military and i've bled creamsicle orange and red transitioned into pewter and red and lived a disappointed fans life growing up to see the Bucs get to where they are. If you're a supporter...support!

He is hard headed to a fault & his ego too big. Goes with his game plan no matter if it's not working. Its his way or the highway.Bad news about that is too many good players have hit the highway to play well for other teams. So just like it was like time for Dungy to go(I hated it at first ) its time for Gruden and I'm not unhappy about that. So now Morris gets to mold this team into his own image!! Don't forget how many of you mere crying the blueswhen Dungy was first hired. Look what he helped turn the Bucs into!
