Completely Disastrous: Giants Run Over Bucs, 24-0 |

UPDATED: The Bucs fell to 0-3 after getting "out-manned and out-gunned" by the New York Giants, 24-0, in what was the third-worst offensive performance in Tampa Bay history. The Bucs offense produced just 86 yards and five first downs against the Giants, which rushed for 226 yards against Tampa Bay's 31st-ranked defense.
“We were clearly out-manned today,” Bucs head coach Raheem Morris said of team’s loss. “We were beat by a grown-man team today, a team we want to be like one day. They came in here and took it to us. They out-manned us, out-gunned us. They were the better team today, clearly. It wasn’t even close.”
Sunday’s defeat, which came before an equally mixed crowd of Giants and Bucs fans, was a blast from the past – from Tampa Bay’s yesterday when the team was known as the “Yuccaneers.” Nothing went right for the Buccaneers as the defense allowed the Giants to gain 397 total yards, rush for 226 yards, convert 63 percent of their third downs (10-of-16) and score 24 points.
The Bucs offense, which came into the game ranked fourth in the NFL, was even worse, accumulating only 86 yards of total offense while being shut out by the Giants. Tampa Bay began the 2009 season with a potent offense and some deficiencies on defense. It took just three games for the Bucs offense to catch up with the NFL’s 31st-ranked defense in terms of futility as Tampa Bay was out-gained by 311 yards.
For the second straight game, the Bucs fell behind by double digits early, trailing the Giants 14-0 after the first play of the second quarter. With 13:00 left in the second quarter, the Giants had outgained the Bucs, 147-14 yards, and Tampa Bay was averaging only two yards per play compared to the Giants, which were averaging seven yards per play.
It never got better. Throughout the game, the Bucs watched the Giants do everything Tampa Bay ultimately wants to do, which is control the clock by running the ball on offense and forcing three-and-outs and turnovers on defense. New York owned a 12:35 to 2:25 time of possession advantage over Tampa Bay in the first quarter and finished the game with a gaudy 43:38 to 16:22 edge in time of possession.
“You have no choice but to get better than this performance today,” Morris said. “You get five first downs and you’re 0-for-9 on third down. You have 86 yards of total offense. It was completely disastrous. I don’t even know if you can blame one man. I don’t know if you can blame any two men. You have to go back and look at the whole thing and evaluate everything you did today. The only way you can get better is good eye, bad eye, self-evaluate, move on to the next opponent and be ready. You let this one linger on and you’ll lose three more backing this one up. This thing is over. That game is over. That game was out-gunned, out-manned, out-everything, out-coached. Whatever you want to call it. They were the better football team today.
On the ground, the Giants were led by Ahmad Bradshaw, who rushed for 104 yards on 14 carries (7.4 avg.), including a 38-yarder. Bradon Jacobs was eight yards shy of 100 yards, rushing for 92 yards on 26 carries (3.5 avg.) and one touchdown. Eli Manning was efficient and error-free, completing 14-of-24 passes for 161 yards with two touchdowns. Steve Smith hauled in seven passes for 63 yards and a touchdown, while Mario Manningham had four catches for 55 yards.
The Bucs came nowhere close to matching that type of production. Running back Derrick Ward started against his former team, but was held to two yards on five carries. Cadillac Williams didn’t fare much better, rushing for eight yards on two carries.
Quarterback Byron Leftwich was 7-of-16 for 22 yards with one interception before being benched in the fourth quarter for second-year quarterback Josh Johnson, who completed 4-of-10 passes for 36 yards and also astonishingly led the Bucs in rushing with one scramble for 15 yards.
After the game, Morris backed up his veteran quarterback, indicating that Leftwich would start next week at Washington (1-3), which is coming off a devastating 19-14 loss to Detroit, which halted its winless streak at 19 games.
“I can’t sit here and tell you that this game can be blamed on any one man,” Morris said. “Five first downs, 0-for-9 on third down, 28 yards rushing. If I take Byron Leftwich out of the game, I might as well take everyone else out with him.”
After the game, Leftwich was perplexed by what just happened.
“We didn’t make any plays,” Leftwich said. “We made zero plays. We made no plays. We made no plays as an offense and you just win football games that way.
Through three games, the Bucs have been outscored 30-0 in the first quarter. By halftime, the Giants held a 14-0 lead with Lawrence Tynes’ 21-yard missed field goal with 19 seconds left before halftime serving as the only positive for Tampa Bay. The Giants out-gained the Bucs 215-19 yards in the first 30 minutes of play.
The Giants took the opening possession and ran it down the Bucs’ throats – literally. Jacobs started the game with three carries for 12 yards and finished the series with 33 yards rushing on six carries. Bradshaw added 14 more on one carry while Manning was 3-of-4 on his opening drive for 33 yards with Smith the recipient of his trio of completions as the Giants methodically drove down the field. Jacobs’ capped off the scoring drive with a 6-yard touchdown run on second-and-goal. With 8:05 left in the first quarter, New York opened up a 7-0 lead.
Cornerback Terrell Thomas picked off Leftwich’s pass, which was intended for Winslow, at the Giants’ 34-yard line. That play sparked another New York scoring drive, which took seven plays and covered 66 yards. Manning hit Manningham with a 10-yard strike and Smith with a 7-yard pass, but it was Bradshaw’s 38-yard run down to the Tampa Bay 9 that keyed the drive. On third-and-goal from the 4, Manning zipped a slant pass to Smith for a touchdown. With 14:54 left in the second quarter, the Giants increased their lead to 14-0.
The Bucs caught a break when the Giants drove 51 yards down to the Tampa Bay 2 right before halftime but couldn’t punch it in the end zone on third-and-goal before Tynes’ 21-yard missed field goal. Manningham had two catches for 25 yards on the drive, while Bradshaw had 17 yards rushing on four carries and Jacobs rushed for 19 yards on four carries.
The Giants had a similar drive in the third quarter, marching 64 yards in 12 plays while advancing to the Tampa Bay 12. Manning provided two big plays through the air, the first of which was a 20-yard completion from Manning to Manningham on third-and-12 from the New York 26. On first-and-10 from the Tampa Bay 31, Manning hit tight end Matt Boss with a 24-yard gain that pushed the ball down to the 12. Three plays later, Tynes’ 26-yard field goal was good and the Giants led 17-0 with 5:48 left in the third quarter.
With 4:59 left in the third quarter, Tampa Bay gained its initial first down of the game on a 3-yard run by Williams on second-and-3. Then the Bucs proceeded to get their fifth straight third-and-out of the game after picking up the first down.
New York increased its lead to 24-0 with 12:26 left in the fourth quarter thanks to a 12-play, 72-yard drive. Manning rushed for a key first down with a 9-yard scramble on third-and-8 to the Giants’ 39. Manning was the difference again on third-and-8 from the Tampa Bay 25 as he completed a 10-yard pass to Steve Smith despite pressure from three Bucs defenders. Two plays later, Manning threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Sinorice Moss, who had a step on cornerback Aqib Talib down the right sidelines.
Johnson entered the game and replaced Leftwich at quarterback with 9:33 remaining in the fourth quarter and ignited the Bucs offense, which had generated only 35 yards up until that point. Johnson drove Tampa Bay from its own 26 down to the New York 5. The big play of the drive was a 15-yard scramble by Johnson on second-and-9 from the Bucs’ 25. That represented the Bucs’ second first down of the game, which came at the 8:39 mark of the fourth quarter.
On the next play, a 25-yard pass interference penalty on cornerback Bruce Johnson gave Tampa Bay a first down at the New York 40. Johnson completed an 8-yard pass to rookie receiver Sammie Stroughter on fourth-and-4 at the 21. Stroughter picked up another first down with a 15-yard catch on the next play. However, with four tries from the Giants’ 5-yard line, Johnson failed to complete a pass and the ball was turned over to New York. The Bucs’ best opportunity for a score was a Johnson pass to Michael Clayton, who dropped a catchable pass in the back of the end zone.
That play was just one of the embarrassing moments from an embarrassing performance by the Buccaneers on Sunday. Although don’t tell that to Morris.
“We don’t use words like embarrassed around here,” Morris said. “There’s no such thing as embarrassed. What you put on tape is who you are, what you are and what you did today. That’s what they were today. They were exactly that on tape. We got beat by a grown-man team and we have to find a way to step up to the challenge and be that guy.
“No, I’m never embarrassed. We have to go out and step up and play. We don’t use words like that.”
The score was not as indicative of how much the Giants dominated the Bucs. It should have been worse.
“It’s disgusting, to be honest with you,” Williams said.
THE 10 WORST OFFENSIVE PERFORMANCES IN BUCS HISTORY
The Bucs’ 86-yard performance against the Giants on Sunday ranks as the third-worst in team history behind a 78-yard effort in Tampa Bay’s 17-0 home loss to Atlanta in 1977 and the team’s 65-yard outing in the infamous “Snow Bowl” at Green Bay, which featured former Tampa Bay quarterback Steve Young presiding over the hapless Bucs. The team’s five first downs against New York on Sunday is tied for the worst in franchise history.
The following are the Bucs’ most futile efforts over the last four decades when factoring in total yardage, first downs and points scored:
1. December 1, 1985 at Green Bay
Packers 21, Buccaneers 0
5 first downs, 65 total yards
2. November 27, 1977 at Tampa Bay
Falcons 17, Buccaneers 0
8 first downs, 78 yards
3. September 27, 2009 at Tampa Bay
New York Giants 24, Buccaneers 0
5 first downs, 86 total yards
4. October 3, 1976
Colts 42, Buccaneers 17
6 first downs, 89 yards
5. November 26, 1978 at Chicago
Bears 14, Buccaneers 3
6 first downs, 92 yards
6. December 5, 1976 at Pittsburgh
Steelers 42, Buccaneers 0
8 first downs, 105 yards
7. December 14, 1991 at Chicago
Bears 27, Buccaneers 0
7 first downs, 106 yards
8. December 14, 1997 at New York
New York Jets 31, Buccaneers 0
6 first downs, 111 yards
9. September 19, 1976 at Tampa Bay
Chargers 23, Buccaneers 0
5 first downs, 125 yards
10. September 10, 2006 at Tampa Bay
Ravens 27, Buccaneers 0
8 first downs, 142 yards
PEWTERREPORT.COM PLAYER OF THE GAME
Tampa Bay’s defense was quite bad once again, surrendering 397 yards, including 226 yards rushing, and allowing the Giants to convert 63 percent (10-of-16) on third downs. The Bucs offense was comical, generating zero points, 86 yards and not getting its initial first down of the game until 4:59 left in the third quarter.
So that leaves Tampa Bay’s most productive player on Sunday coming from special teams where punter Dirk Johnson was pretty solid. Due to Tampa Bay’s inept offense, Johnson punted seven times for 311 yards, averaging 44.4 yards per punt with a 37.9-yard net average. Johnson didn’t have a punt downed inside the Giants’ 20, but didn’t have a touchback, either. In fact, Johnson has yet to have a touchback through three games.
IT WAS OVER WHEN…
Although the Bucs didn’t know it at the time, this game was over from the minute the Giants marched 80 yards in 12 plays to score their opening touchdown, which came on a 6-yard run by running back Brandon Jacobs. With 8:05 left in the first quarter, this contest was done and New York was the winner. The Giants scored more points and gained almost as many yards as the Bucs would have all game.
STATS THAT COUNT
Middle linebacker Barrett Ruud had 14 tackles to lead the Bucs. … Safety Will Allen got his first start in over two years and made 10 tackles. … Tampa Bay’s offense was so bad that cornerback Corey Webster only needed four stops to become the Giants’ leading tackler on the day. … Tight end Kellen Winslow had a team-high three catches for 14 yards. … Rookie receiver Sammie Stroughter had a team-high 23 yards receiving on two catches. … Wide receiver Brian Clark had three special teams tackles. ... The Bucs did not record a sack for the first time this season.

What the hell is wrong wtth him? The offense played like the slow , lethargic, lead ass QB that was out there looking like a 5 team reject! This team if it was playing well would only win 5 or 6 games, yet Morris keeps a QB in there who offers nothing to the team except for losing. If he doesn't play Johnson next week, they should start a drive to run him out of town! At least if the line breaks down, Johnson has a chance to make something instead of getting sacked!
And our great new Defensive coach Bates, when are you going to finally put on the bench that sorry excuse of a DE ......Adams, and put someone in there who has a chance to do something different. Where the hell is the BLITZ Bates? Your front four can't do it so why not blitz and put pressure on the QB? You are as much a moron as your head coach with your game plan!
This is one of the most embarassing games as a Buc fan I have ever had the agony to watch!!!!! My God Morris, you actually were almost the Defensive coordinator under Gruden if he would have stayed. You better take control of that defense because you won't make it through the season leaving it to Bates to run that sorry exucse of a defense!

Our defense looked slightly, and I mean slightly, improved today especially in the area of big plays. Our LB's and DB's are getting better and better each week. However, our line sucks as bad as any line I've ever seen. Our DE's especially are totally ineffective. If we don't get some DE help soon we're definitely going 0-16 without a doubt. If Bates needs to start dialing up frequent blitzes then so be it. We need pressure and we need it now, dammit!!!
Our offense looked horribly inept. No points and only 86 total yards! Are you kidding me? What the hell?!!! Even the Lions didn't have an 86-yard offensive performance last year and they went 0-16. Our O-line is supposed to be our strength and they got dominated like they were a bunch of rag-dolls out there today. Either the Giants have the best D-line in football or our O-line is overrated.
I'm all for benching Leftwich and starting JJ at this point. What the hell...what do we have to lose? At least he provides some extra spark with his mobility, and his passing is just as good as Leftwich's.
Bench Leftwich, get some damn DE help, dial up some blitzes and maybe we can go 4-12 by the time it's all said and done.

How and when will Barrett Ruud begin to get called out by these boards???
Leftwich was a scrap heap signing that people we're skeptical to begin with.
Everyone was clamoring for Barrett "GIVE ME A LONG TERM DEAL" Ruud.
We'll guess what, he is not a Pro Bowl Caliber LB, at least not this year. HE MAKES ZERO game changing plays, gets blown out of the whole, and all his tackles come 9 yards down field. Leftwich isn't good we've already come to that conclusion, where is the rightful bashing of RUUD.

While I am not a raheem fan, it is hilarious that "fans" want to jump ship already. Maybe PR and fans on this blog should start directing some of their criticism towards ownership. They are the ones who gave up 4 first and second round draft picks in 2000-2002 to get keyshawn and j. gruden. These are the players who would be forming the nucleus of the team.
Furthermore, the Glazers are the ones who have $30m under the cap while the average NFL team has $8m.
How is Manchester United doing?

Scott and Jim have already told the readers this is a "wash" of a year.I cant believe some people are calling out Barrett Rudd. He didnt have a good game, but come on its Rudd. Our LB corp is solid. The secondary did improve. Ill agree our D-Line looks bad. Adams looks like there is no effort. Need to see what JJ can do, kids got alot talent and is always prepared with little reps.

If the guy was a journeyman or just another starter I wouldn't call him out but if you want the big $$$ and you take all the praise when things go good, it's a two way street.
He is suppossed to be a young core leader on the team, and be a GAME CHANGER. He hasn't so the critisicm is valid.
Tackling a run down the middle 9 yards down field 6 or 7 times a game is unacceptable if you want to be a top MLB in this league.

This is also ONE of the types of performances that ownership looks at as being so bad that they make a coaching change even after year 1. I'm not saying they will, but it's certainly the type of performance that makes any owners question their decision. You cannot afford to play that poorly against any team, regardless of talent.
The sad part today is that Eli looked far from his normal self. Had he connected on the shorter range passes he normally completes, this could have been worse.
I said I didn't think they would score, but I predicted one anyway; should have went with my gut feeling.
And listen, I'm not saying this to be rude or mean, but did you catch the commentators comment today on this team? They said quote: "I'm not sure if they can win a game." End quote.
Now, I told you guys last week that if they do not get Washington, I just don't see them winning a game this season. That would put them at starting the season in all likelihood 0-8, and no team is going to have any confidence by that point to play with any pride. You can play with heart and pride if you're a team that's good enough to win some games, but this team is just not.
I warned EVERYONE months in advance of this much change, and there's no doubt it's beginning to backfire.
I realize I'm going to continue getting backlash from Tampa fans on this board, but I've officially taken 5-6 wins officially off the board for the remainder of the season. At this point, I think that's not possible.
Right now, they need to put every ounce of energy they have into preparing for Washington next week, who will be coming off a humiliating loss to Detroit (don't know whether that's good or bad) and they MUST WIN THAT GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If they don't, I'm going to officially announce 0-16 until I'm proven otherwise.
That's how strongly I feel about it.

Ruud has a completely different setup. He had Brooks and June last season, two guys Bucs fans completely wrote off as being happy to see them go, but I'm telling you right now, say what you want but Ruud is now realizing that the combination of an ineffective D-Line with inexperienced LB's is simply too much to overcome.
I'll promise you Ruud is the same player he's been all along, probably even better if you want the truth, but it's the guys around him that are THAT BAD. There is no pass rush and ALL THE DT's are no fits for this scheme, outside of Roy Miller, who doesn't know what the hell he's doing either at this point...

You can have a young coach or a young team not both. This is the balanced NFL so not all is lost, but changes of some kind are due and then wins will come.
Its still just a game and you have to find a way to have fun then you will win.

davdar, the reason that Morris won't start Johnson next week is that he knows if he plays him that he will look good and then it will be harder to bring in Freeman whenever he might be ready to play. He is scared to make that move because then his draft pick will have to wait to get a chance to play because of how well Johnson can play!! He will let this offense rot and lose so he can bring his man in with no pressure on him! He has already said that Johnson is only a career backup so you know Morris won't give him a legitimate chance to show how well he can play , because it will jeapordize his draft pick 's chances of starting on this team.

We do not have one player on our defensive front 4 that could start for another NFL team. That is the true problem not Ruud or the secondary.

Leftwich has no future. Heck he really didn't have a past.

What is Bucfan47 doing these days? He could be a better starter than leftwich.

bucsmaniac---what an asinine, uninformed comment (5:06 pm). The difference w/ Gruden is that he plugged holes w/ free agents, understood the values of veteran leadership t key positions, and prepared the team with a gameplan each week. This isn't Gruden's fault; it's the current GM/coaching staff's fault: Horrible decisions w/ a lack of off season defense FA signings, purging the veteran leadership the team once had for a Potemkin Village "youth movement", none of the current year draft picks are making a difference, shoddy prep by an inexperienced head coach, NOTHING TO DO W/ GRUDEN. The days of blaming Gruden are over. Focus on the current coach, staff, not Gruden.

Personally, I don't care if they go 0-16, 1-15, or 4-12. It doesn't change the fact that the team is "rebuilding". Anyone with half a brain could have guessed we were in for a rough year. If you are shocked by our current situation then I'd like what ever you are drinking.
The real topic should be how this "rebuilding" pans out. Again, if you are gonna judge the next 2-3 years based on 3 games stop being a football fan and go get into TV poker or something. In the pre-season, Morris and the FO embarked on a very, very risky strategy of cleaning house and "evaluating the young players we have". Were the completely off-base, misguided and over their heads? Quite possibly. Are they football geniuses headed to the Hall of Fame? Who knows. Only time and the quality of their decisions going forward will reveal the answer.
I expected this to be a rough season.. but I don't think its too much to demand at least a good effort every Sunday's from this team. A shutout, no 1st down until the 3rd quater, and held under 100 yds of offense.. I don't care how good the opposing team is - that is not an example of fielding a competitive team.
I will watch a losing team. I even accept a winless season if it comes to that. But I have no tolerance for packing it up and giving in.

We have bigger problems starting with philosophies and vision. What are they? Where is this team going and when are they going to start showing signs of getting there?

We have been force fed a heavy line of BS when it comes to our "top level" playmakers-Adams,Bryant,Joseph,Winslow-all are let downs..
Adams should no longer play in this league,Bryant is making it clear he should have stayed out of football,Davin is a goof and yet another first round waste of time, and winslow should get back on a motorcycle and finish the job he started a few years ago...
What will be the big excuse this week? What line of crap is the front office going to try to feed us this week..
We need to fire our talent evaluators-they obviously are unable to do their job-dont let those schnooks ruin yet another draft !!!

Plus, I don't care who you draft, if you play with heart and actually coach, you'll make a difference. The defense has gotten worse over the three games, not better, so it's hard to see some sort of silver lining to a rebuilding year. We ran Gruden out of town because we thought the youth movement would help..it isn't. Ronde is still the only guy showing up and busting his ass.

The one bright spot today was seeing Josh Johnson play in a real game. I realize we have so many problems, switching Qbs wouldn't make us better even if we had John Elway, but it would at least give us fans something exciting to watch. We are obviously horrible and will have a terrible record this year, so why waste another second on Leftwich? Why not let Johnson and Freeman see some action rather than a sloth that won't even be here next year?
We are a joke right now. Hopefully Rheem can get this thing turned around sometime this season. Playing hard and giving it your all but losing...sucks, but what I saw today is inexcusable. I can't watch an entire season of my team being a joke. Better do something in a hurry Rheem, or you will be gone next year and a real coach will be drafting Suh.

However - everyone thought the Bucs would start 0-3. I've said that a dozen times in posts, Pewter Report (who predicted the Bucs to win 6 games) had them starting 0-3 as well. Every publication on the planet had the Bucs starting 0-3. The season is not a wash. This team has plenty of time to respond.
You throw this game out the window and challenge the team's manhood. Everything you need to know about this team and Raheem Morris' ability to coach will be evident next week.
Today was not an issue of strategy or play-calling. Today was an issue of a team's desire. The Offense showed zero heart today, dropping at least 8 passes that were VERY catchable.
The only people who showed fire were Johnson and Stroughter at the end of the game. They were young and hungry even after the others had mailed it in. A young team like this has to show that fire for sixty minutes - regardless of the score.
You have no choice but to believe that this team will respond in a big way next weak to disprove the notion that they are a team without desire. If you don't (which I can't argue against) then do yourself a favor and jump on another team's bandwagon until 2010 rolls around.

In all seriousness fellas, I have lost complete faith in the front office and had been extremely skeptical throughout the off-season. It is all coming to fruition now and it is not a pretty sight. I like Raheem's flair, but he is not deserving of his "NFL Head Coach" title. It's just so damn obvious, why change a scheme which we cannot execute do to a lack of personnel.
What was Raheem going to do as defensive coordinator?

Sure he looks athletic...he has great touch and decent arm strength, and he is way sexier than Leftwich. One he starts they'll game plan for him and make him look like a pop warner QB. OUr offense was a bit of a mystery until the tape came out. It looks like will have these struggles until the defense can step up and keep us from fallen behind so fast so early.
Stop the Barett Ruud hating. You crazy fans are pissed at how bad we look and it turns into a witch hunt where everybody's suspect. Guess What? When your team is this bad it makes even the stars of the team look a little mediocre. I watched the game and there's no way Barrett can be the playmaker we want him to be when our fattys up front get pushed out of the way so easiily. Remember, Bates scheme is predicated on our fattys holding the fort down and occupying two guards....well, they're getting their butts kicked with just one guy. Not to mention Quincy and Geno who have almost zero experience.

1. Tanard Jackson will be back and play better than Will Allen and Jermain PHillips
2. We still have Barett Ruud
3. Aqib will be a pretty good CB in the future.
4. We will have a high draft pic next year.
5. Johnson could actually be pretty good if he gets more real game experience
6. Donald Penn is probably the best guy on our offensive line
7. Our talented running backs are still healthy
8. It's still early in the season....this was the worst game out of the 3 (so don't bail out yet guys)
10:54am, September 28, 2009

1. Defense except Barrett, Aqib and Ronde
2. Offensive Line is struggling......(naybe Faine helps)
3. Kellen Winslow is overrated....he has a way to go to be an elite tightend...right now he's just a faster jeremy stevens
4. Clayton is used goods and should not have been extended
5. Jim Bates is repeating his Denver Broncos failures
6. The coaches don't have themselves together...they are losing this team fast.

Games are won and lost in the trenches. Both our lines got WHIPPED yesterday. I don't care who we have as linebackers, cornerbacks and safeties... The D-line gets no pressures, can not shake off lineman and Barett Ruud is being bashed... are you kidding me? We could take 5 D-lineman off of other team's practice squads and it would be an improvement. Some have said we have made to many changes... we obviously did not make the one change that was neccessary IMO. This keeps up and there WILL be blackouts this season; guess it is good we only have 5 home games. Olsen better get JJ or Freeman ready because if we lose next week and we probably will, the Glazers WILL force the change at QB. Anything to sell tickets...

How's it feel to devalue your team by $500 million in less than a year? Its hard to sell a team when you cant sell the stadium out. Glazers, Please sell the team, take the loss, and give us a ownership group who wants to do what it takes to win.
You obviously dont anymore.

Given the current roster, there aren't enough changes that can be made in personnel to make a real difference, so it all boils down to COACHING this week.
While Leftwich had been named as next week's starter, the one positive from Sunday's game was JJ. He showed some pretty good poise out there - especially given the fact he gets no reps.
Because this team desperately needs a win, here are two things I would do if I were king (or rather head coach):
1. I would give JJ and not Freeman, this week's backup reps. (Look at what he did with no reps!).
2. I would give Lefty exactly one quarter to redeem himself and if not, put JJ in.
observation: If Albert H is playing, Lefty probably shouldn't.
GO BUCS!

I'll be doing some sprint drills this week at practice and will be really tired, so please start Josh Johnson. He is SOOO fast! And he can throw a screen pass without a 2 second wind up.
