Morris Reveals Team’s Offseason Plan

On Monday night's edition of The Raheem Morris Show heard on 620 WDAE, Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris discussed what the team's plans are heading into the offseason, and what the Bucs can do to improve as a team moving forward.

"We're youthful," Morris said. "We need some veteran players, so we'll get some veterans here with these young guys and have them grow. We'll also add some more young guys with the upcoming draft and we'll have these guys get better. They'll have this offseason together again, have continuity with their coaches again, and have the ability to come back here and perform. It's just about doing the process over and over again until you get it right. We know the areas that we have to improve in, and those are the areas that we'll focus on. Those are the areas we'll change and get better in."

The first-year head coach emphasized that it won't take just one big free agent acquisition or draft selection to turn this team around and that there is more than one missing piece of the puzzle to get this team headed in the direction he wants them to go.

"This is not basketball where you can go and find LeBron James and it's not baseball where you can go and buy C.C. Sabathia and change the whole dynamics of your franchise," said Morris. "We drafted the young quarterback [Josh Freeman] and he can help you change that, but you've got to get some people around him, you've got to get some people on the other side of the ball from him, and you've got to get some people to believe in what everybody's trying to do and get on the same page. Football is the ultimate team game, I believe, and it's the ultimate joy and relieve when you put it all together. I know right now it's miserable, but you've got to learn to love to be miserable before you can go out and win."

The Buccaneers still have six remaining games to play before the season comes to a close, including this Sunday's matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. The combined record of the team's remaining opponents is 31-29, and that includes the undefeated Saints, who the Bucs will have to face again in New Orleans.

"We want to finish these last six games here and go out hard, finish strong, and play them to the best of our ability so when we all get back together and have a chance to do this again, we'll never forget this season," said Morris.

I love Morris. He seems to be on the right track. To me he is like Obama. A charismatic leader who knows how to fix the problems the man before him left behind. I just hope he brings more results than Obama has. Lol. I'm excited to see what next year brings.

Be aware that there are many Bucs fans who would disagree vehemently.

Joey, what planet are you on where you understand Obama's failures but somehow buy into the blame Gruden/give Raheem all the time he needs nonsense we're hearing now?

I believe in Morris. I knew he was green, being a rookie coach, I knew he would have growing pains. If you didn't know this, you ignored the facts.

And not to make this political, but our "Do Nothing" president... If you think he had done nothing... You're just plain ignorant... Thanks to his "Homeowner Affordability and Stability Plan" I was able to keep my house.

Congrats to this great president!! I am glad you kept your house but lets be realistic on how terrible he really is. He helps one thing and screws up everything else. Just like this team, the next term can only be better.

Yeah Socialism is great............. I pay taxes even though my business is down 70% and cant buy a house now but i'll have to pay for somebody elses healhcare and you get free help to keep your house.............i cant afford a new car now..........where's my $50000 (cash for clunkers)
Hey im glad you got to keep your house but redistribution of wealth is Socialisim............. Dont compare a Football Coach to any President.Coach's dont play with my livelyhood or future.

This isn't a political board so I'll make this one point and then talk football, I didn't vote for Obama trapper nor McCain (I'm a libertarian) but you're ignorant if you think you're not already paying for someone elses healthcare. What do you think Medicare, Medicade and the prescription drug benefit are?! Tax payer funded healthcare!!!! Turn off the Glenn Beck, Kieth Olbermann, put down Sarah Palin's crappy book, and learn something for yourself.

Now football, like those of us critical of Ruud needed anymore evidence to thwart his legion of fanboys on here but just in case:
Here's some good evidence of the problems that Tampa Bay is having on defense: Middle linebacker Barrett Ruud is second in the NFL with 65 tackles or assists on running plays. However, Ruud has made those plays after an average gain of 5.6 yards, farther away from the line of scrimmage than any other starting middle (or 3-4 inside) linebacker in the league.

Even with the pewter report crediting him with tackles he has not officially by the NFL Stat guys been given, it still doesn't take away from the above stat. I hope the swtich back to cover 2 improves Ruud's play but bottom line is my argument still stands Ruud is not worth Top 5 MLB money he's been asking for, plain and simple!

It's still socialism.................when you take from one person and give it to anoher wither it's medicare, social security, healthcare or money for a house...........i dont need a t.v. show or book to use common sense..............over 40% of americans dont pay income tax they get money back every year and benifit from other programs like money to keep your house.................that's socialism no matter how you slice it................dont start............ im done................ My whole point was DONT COMPARE OBAMA TO RAHEEM.....................because this is what you get.... political talk..........

Name three major problems facing this country that Obama has fixed in one year while doubling the entire debt of the United States!
Back to football. What "continuity in coaching again" is Raheem talking about? Defensive coordinator? DB coach?

America has had bits and pieces of socialism in it since it's inception, hate to break that history lesson to you. We've never been purely capitalist. I'm not saying I agree with the aforementioned programs but to lay blame soley on Obama is uninformed! There now I'm done.

Btw It's 1041am and Barrett Ruud still sucks and is not a TOP 5 MLB.

Go Bucs!

9:52pm, November 26, 2009

Really?

"We're youthful," Morris said. "We need some veteran players, so we'll get some veterans here "

Ok then maybe LAST offseason you shouldn't have thrown all the vets away and maybe this year wouldn't be such an unmitigated disaster.
Duh!

Pewterdude

Morris: " "We need some veteran players, so we'll get some veterans here "....

It took a 1-9 freaking record to figure THAT out???!!!!!!

Many on this board KNEW THAT back when you cheerleaders were lauding the need for ONLY youth...What a FREAKING MORON MORRIS IS!!!!

I loved Freeman from day one and knew he had game as many of you predicted he wouldn't even play for two years (IDIOTS) but this is what we get to replace Gruden as a head coach? I can't watch this shiot ANY LONGER. SCREW THIS TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FOCK em.....

1:27am, November 27, 2009

antonio23

the vets they got rid of should not have still been on the team anyway you saw what happen down the stretch last year . they got old real quick, cmon man lets get serious even with all those players still here we would still suck!!!
at least this way you get to see what you have on deck without the mirage of vets. like galloway and brooks clouding the picture!!!

1:35am, November 27, 2009

antonio23

And i am sick and tired of you Obama bashers the man has been in office for less than a year. He has job of fixing something that took 8 YEARS to ruin!!!! people askin for miracles is ridiculous. I support OBAMA 100000000% and am going to give him the chance you all gave the last guy !!!
GO BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1:41am, November 27, 2009

wher are the REAL buc fans at? I am sick of all the haters
if you cant handle the bad times then dont stick around for the good times!!!!! Trust me it will get better and it will be a lot sooner than you think!

what team is joey galloway on? derrick brooks tearing it up where? it may not be the actual desions we have problem with, its just that rah needs to learn how to speak to the media, remember what you say from one day to next or hire a p.r. person.and to make political comparisons is stupid, gruden wasnt nearly as bad as bush they would have 2-14 every year if that were the case.

10:00am, November 27, 2009

flash_kiley

okay can we get a "no politics rule" please? seriously we go from talking about tampa's offseason to pro and anti obama rants. :)

i hope raheem blitzes more like he said he would. we really need to take advantage of the athleticism of geno quincy and sabby. and ronde has always been a terror.

12:37pm, November 27, 2009

Pewterdude

How about maybe JUST MAYBE this clueless team should have signed VETERAN FA'S from OTHER teams when the Bucs let them sign with other teams?????

Box......outside.....think.....

1:14pm, November 27, 2009

tatmanfish

god i hope raheem doesnt compare to obama in anyway (other than skin color). i would like to see some progress out of this team. i would like to think the team has a promising future. i would like to think that despite his media comments raheem is actually capable of getting something done. i would like to think all of the plans arent some far fetched hairbrained scheme that the fanbase as a whole will go for. i wuld like to think it wont cost me anymore of money that what i already spend. i would like to think i wouldnt be able to go on for days about how raheem should be nothing like one of the worst presidents since jimmy carter. i will give both one more football season to prove themselves though. but right now, despite all the raheem haters, i think they would choose him being the bucs coach, over obama being president. lol. see, the two topics can co-exist......not really....lets never go this route again.

4:10pm, November 27, 2009

Oh cool - Obama and Morris comparison: 2 rookie incompetants who should not be around next season.

If we need veteran players what happened to Derrick Brooks...OBD

7:05pm, November 27, 2009

It's amazing how some of you fair weather Buc fans can compare and attack the President for no sound reason. Just like Raheem, he has taken over an administration that already had a failed econonmy, 2 wars, high unemployment, and horrible foriegn/international relations. I know you Florida Gubbers only get your information from Rush (the pill popper) Faux News, Glen (The imperial Grand Dragon Beck) and the Florida favorite (Tea Party Birthers movement). Why don't you guys join Texas and become separatist. I'm sure you don't remember George Bush was allowed to steal an election, and F??? everything aforementioned. Thanks, Gubers for that! Now, let's keep politics and race out of sports and support your team or wait for your girl Sarah P. to run for Pres. and waste another vote. Peace!
