Nunn Leaving For Giants

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had another change on their coaching staff Wednesday.

Bucs defensive line coach Robert Nunn reportedly was given permission to leave the team to join the New York Giants as their new defensive line coach.

Nunn's departure doesn't leave the Bucs without a defensive line coach, though. The Bucs had two coaches hold that title last year when Nunn was hired by then-defensive coordinator Jim Bates to work with holdover defensive line coach Todd Wash, who remains with the team.

Nunn is the second assistant coach the Bucs have allowed out of a contract in as many days. Bucs general manager Mark Dominik made a special exception for linebackers coach Joe Barry to leave for USC on Tuesday.

"...Todd Wash, who remains with the team." ...until he gets a better offer.

What about Shelton Quarles as a Def Assistant to help with LB's?

So Dominik lied basically. What changed between now and what he said at the Senior bowl about keeping the current staff except for WR and QB coaches? Not that I cared about keeping Nunn, but c'mon...

Let us not forget part of him is from the Bruce Allen school of GM'ing. Deny, deny, deny - then - "oh...you meant EVERY coach?"

I like him, but he's not going to tell everything. Nobody will.

Didn't we hear this was going to happen weeks ago? Why would we hold onto Jim Bates' guy that was hired to teach our lineman his 2 gap system when we're not going to run that anymore?

Evil Betty, agree with you. Of the two, Wash is the guy to keep.

Evil Betty, since NYG are going to a cover 2 defense, do you think he's going to play mostly 2 gap ?

That's the eqivilent of some team hiring the Raiders QB coach ..we're gonna miss the "juice' he brought to the Bucs D-line.

Again, not surprised at all. It's all about job security, and there's none in Tampa.

BTW, for those of you who wanted McCardell as the WR coach he just signed with the Redskins to coach their WR's. Guess Dominik didn't move fast enough...assuming he wanted McCardell in the first place.

hopefully he moves out faster than the d-line moves to the qb,we won't miss this guy.lake is the next tomlin and morris as for as a db coach, and barry won't be missed 3-29 last two years

Not a big surprise considering he was a Bates hire anyways.

Since when is everybody so dissapointed our d-line coach is leaving? I just dont understand some of you. You complain all season about the play of our d-line(which was a real eyesore) and now we let the coach go and every body is heartbroken.

Should have landed Mccardell, hopefully we can get Hilliard.

Did you even read any of the post? I did and no one wrote anything about being disapointed that Nunn is leaving. From what I read everyone seems pretty happy he's gone. He did do anything here anyway. Learn to read num nuts.

Just let Morris do ALL of the coaching-think of all the money the Glazers could save..
Then they could that hard earned american money and spend it overseas on a bloated soccer team !

Coaches and assistants have mouths to feed, they will take jobs that offer the most security. Those jobs are usually found on well run, winning franchises,Tampa is not one of them..Also,signing with a new coach like a Carroll-with a proven track record, those coaches are looking at a few good years of solid employment.Morris has been promised nothing and is a lame duck coach on a team lacking a direction. This along with the cap free season possibility, anyone who can find a better job with another team will take it...Its job security...Tampa fired Gruden and Allen, reputable football guys-and replaced them with who?-Whats his name again?

Until we make it through the rest of Mr. Toads wild ride-which probably wont end til 2011,this team is a big open wound..
Hopefully we will find a few solid players in the draft that will make watching next year at least some what palatable ...

We are rebuilding....at some point....think of the coming season as a kind of halt of construction..We may fire and hire some guys during that time, but nothing in Tampa seems very solid these days...

DEEZ NUTS: when your name has the word "nuts" in it, you should be aware that it's "numb" not "num."

Funny, for weeks PR has been suggesting that Robert Nunn was not expected to remain with the coaching staff primarily due to his connection to Jim Bates and the fact that the DL was not exactly stellar under his guidance and would be released.

Now some of you take this coaching departure and use it to satisfy your own agenda that coaches are "abandoning ship" for improved job security or the Glazers have no money to meet payroll.

Every year coaches go from one team to another for whatever their personal reasons are. Perhaps Nunn read Pewter Report that he was likely going to be released. What do a lot of people do when they are worried about being fired? They quit.

Maybe you should learn how to read. As the first post says "abandon ship". And, if theres one post out there, that usually means more than one person shares the smae perspective. Who says 'num nuts' any more? Seriously.

scu - You could certainly make a very good argument that's exactly what they're doing. Leaving while they still have a say-so of where they end up.

Hey this is great for the owners who can save a lot more money. This just in; rumor has it that they are hiring two pee wee football coaches and the first ever female coach who was a soccer coach before. I also understand that the owners have now told their football coaches in England to assist Coach Morris.
Now this is a coaching staff!

I hope you realize i was just joking.

The amount of money spent on assitant coaches is microscopic compared to player salaries or even stadium costs; that argument holds no water.

The bucs would save more money by not giving free stuff away before the home games.

You may be able to read. What you lack is the capacity to comprehend what you are reading, As the term "abandon ship" means nothing about being ''disappointed'' or ''heartbroken'' that Nunn is gone. You're one of thoes homers that post ridiculous comments just to get a response.
