ESPN's Adam Shefter is reporting that free agent safety Will Allen is signed a three-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Free agent safety Will Allen is signed a three-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers according to ESPN's Adam Shefter. Allen played for the Buccaneers from 2004-2009. He started 26 games in six seasons with Tampa Bay and was the Bucs starter at free safety in the 2005 and 2006 seasons. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Allen was drafted by the Buccaneers in the fourth round of the 2004 NFL Draft.

Allen, 27, re-signed with Tampa Bay before the 2009 season and played in eight games before ending the season on injured reserve with a thumb injury. He started two games and had 21 tackles. Allen was the special teams captain, and recorded one tackle on special teams in eight games.

Allen's best seasons as a Buccaneer came in 2006 when he had 83 tackles and in 2005 when he had three interceptions. In his career with Tampa Bay he had four interceptions and two forced fumbles. He totaled 63 tackles on special teams over those six seasons.

No big loss here.

One FA I'd really like us to sign is the Eagles LB Witherspoon.

I wonder if this is the sign of things to come? Berry at #3? Interesting.

No, Berry would be to replace Sabby, not Allen.

Loss of depth, but replacable.

this was not even a gain for Steelers.

good riddons will "toast" allen

He was the Special Teams captain. So some one else will have to rise up and do those duties. Perhaps graham?
Go Bucs!!!!

no worries, he was gone anyway...it was time for him to go...and with the way things are developing for sabby, if he doesn't show a lot of improvement over the next year or so, he will just wind up filling the role of a will allen...sabby is a heady guy who can work special teams....maybe even be a defensive captain down the line if he stays long enough.....and can be a perfet fit as a spot duty player...just like will allen...so no worries here....adam from ny

Tenard Jackson is the current FS and Sabby is the current SS. Berry would replace Sabby. Right now, we have no depth at safety.

2:08pm, March 8, 2010

cigarfox

We last Stovall on special teams ass well.

2:09pm, March 8, 2010

$#!t. I see nothing trivial about losing the special teams captain of a unit that was very good in covering kicks in the prime of his career.

T. Jack is now the only safety we have that's worth his weight in salt and he's one mistake away from being suspended for a year.

We need a DT, SS, WR, ROT, another WR, LB, CB and DE in this draft in that order in my opinion. The first five are the big ones and hopefully we make the best of our first five picks in this years draft.

"We last Stovall on special teams ass well"

Wow, I can't spell!

We LOST Stovall on special teams As well.

I am a better reader than typer.

I guess we could draft Eric Berry and move Sabby to FS if something happens to Jackson.

2:19pm, March 8, 2010

Here is how I see the Bucs draft going.

1st pick - Suh or Mcoy - DT

2nd Pick - Arrelious Benn - WR

3rd Pick - Chad Jones - SS

If Suh and McCoy are gone at numbr 1 than I see it more like this:

1st - Eric Berry SS

2nd - Troy Alualu - DT

3rd - Golden Tate - WR

From the Glazer's perspective - it's another Vet they do not have to pay. They will be happy to replace him with an undrafted FA.

The Steelers obviously liked something more with his game than the Bucs did.

eric2706

Doesn't Berry play FS? So how could he signed to replace Sabby who is our SS?

2:40pm, March 8, 2010

eric2706

For you who think the loss of a good ST player won't hurt us you are wrong. I understand he was out and our ST did well without him but you can't lose a guy like him on ST and be a better unit. I'm sorry I just don't agree. Maybe you guys like our starters playing on the ST units but I don't. NOT AT ALL. First time Tenard gets hurt playing ST I'm going to go to Radios house and curse him out. Geno hayes as well. You don't have your starters playing ST I'm sorry. BAD IDEA

Yes but then Sabby would become the new Will Allen if we draft Berry...

2:52pm, March 8, 2010

ILoveMeSomeFire

I am just as unsure about Berry as the next person but if we did draft him we would be able to switch him and jackson in and out at FS. Having two big play makers at safety couldn't hurt and he may even be able to play CB in our system.

I would just rather us suck it up and Draft Okung at #3 if Suh and McCoy are gone. We really need a LT for the future and it would be a good time to just go ahead and get it done and let him and Freeman grow together. Then we could either keep Penn as depth or try to trade him for a 2nd or third rounder or even for another player...

3:01pm, March 8, 2010

ILoveMeSomeFire

Meaning both Berry and Jackson would play SS and FS at the same time and be able to move them around...

"Yes but then Sabby would become the new Will Allen if we draft Berry..."

Just for this year if Jackson isn't playing.

Your know what, good for Allen. At least he has a chance for a ring on a team that has the financial backing of the owners.

3:15pm, March 8, 2010

JDouble

With guys like Kam Chancellor, Major Wright, Darrel Stuckey, and Barry Church all projected to be 3rd and 4th round picks, I'm fairly certain we can replace Will Alllen with a younger upgrade.

3:29pm, March 8, 2010

JDouble

They all have potential to become starters too. Will Allen had peaked as a very average back up safety.

3:34pm, March 8, 2010

dcrum35

JDouble:
I agree. They can replace him in the 4th. Actually, most those guys could replace Sabby in the 4th.

4:02pm, March 8, 2010

Horse

It appears that we need even more draft picks. Anyone have any ideas how to get more of them? You already know where I stand: if Suh is gone at No. 3 spot trade down.

4:33pm, March 8, 2010

makski

I agree as well. Allen did not seem to be playing well as of late on defense or ST. How does your ST captain only produce 1 TACKLE in 8 games!! He surely was not leading by example and the ST unit actually fared pretty well without him for half of the season.

On a side note, have I not been paying attention lately or not?? Isn't L. Sheppard a UFA? Why has there been no talk about him on the FA front for any team at CB? Has he lost a step or 2?? He used to be a very solid CB !?!? If he is still playing well, I would like to see him as a Buc. Isn't he even only about 27 yrs old?

4:34pm, March 8, 2010

JDouble

Makski, I think he was more of the vocal cheerleader type of guy that got everyone pumped up. I think coach Bisciati is the reason for our great special teams, and Will Allen's departure will not have great effect.

Horse, there are sooooo many different ways we can get more picks. If Dom wants to get more, he can. He has shown the ability to make trades and get things done when the time comes.
I wouldn't worry too much. I think thier actions so far this offseason point towards them stockpiling as many as possible.
My personal hope, is that we end up with 10 picks in the top 100. Right now we have 5.

5:21pm, March 8, 2010

Bucko40

Great now we can't even keep our marginally good players. Big void on special teams and little to no depth in the Secondary.

Bucs might be fortunate to go 3-13 again this season.

Still no signs of life or intelligence at one yuc place

7:34pm, March 8, 2010

H.oneG

Lol. Yep, Will Allen is gone....the season is lost!

8:06pm, March 8, 2010

Be Glazer

I think everyone is missing the point. We saved another $1 million dollars in salary. How can anyone be upset about that? Isn't that what it's all about? We should be moving up from the #8 spot on Forbes NFL team valuations to at least #7 or maybe #6. So that should make the fan's happy. We'll soon be raking it in like the biggest money making team in the NFL, the Skins and Cowboys. A few more signings of our free agents and Bucs fans will be able to cheer with pride that we are Forbes #1.

someone actually said "good riddons".... ???

what the F?

RIDDANCE!!!!

They have these special books called dictionaries where you can learn stuff.

11:15pm, March 8, 2010

scubog

Why must there be yet another poster mock draft with every move? The loss of S Will Allen affects the Special Teams more than anything. Allen had his chance as a starter and couldn't hold it. What does that tell you?
