Bryant To Visit Washington

Free agent wide receiver Antonio Bryant is scheduled to visit the Washington Redskins. Bryant is visiting the Cincinnati Bengals today, and if he does not sign with them he will move on to a visit with Washington. Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune writes:

Bryant's agent, Lamont Smith, said Bryant had also arranged a visit with the Washington Redskins that could prove more enticing as Bryant would apparently be a second receiver behind Chad Ochocinco in Cincinnati.

PewterReport.com's Take:
Bryant visiting Washington is not a surprise. Former Bucs general manager Bruce Allen signed Bryant in Tampa Bay, and the Redskins could use help in their receiving corps.  It has been common knowledge that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were planning to part ways with Bryant as far back as the 2009 regular season. At the combine in Indianapolis, Bucs head coach Raheem Morris told media members that the team would allow Bryant to leave in free agency, suggesting Tampa Bay had zero interest in re-signing him. The Bucs weren't happy about how Bryant publicly complained about his role in Greg Olson's offense last year. In addition, the team has some concerns about his durability after watching Bryant miss significant action as a $9.88-million franchise player due to a lingering knee ailment. The Bucs traded for receiver Reggie Brown on Monday night, and are in the market for more help at wide receiver in free agency, trades, and the 2010 NFL Draft.

I still think it's a mistake letting him go, but only time will tell.

I love watching Bryant play and I am rooting for him where ever he ends up. I do wish he could have kept the press meetings to a minimum.

One thing that has been said about Bryant is that he doesn't run good routes. That may explain why he was in the open so many times but the quarterback had difficulty seeing him. If he wasn't running good routes it may have caused the quarterback to watch him too closley during the play. Whatever, he was/is great to watch and a good playmaker that I will miss watching on the Bucs.

Go Bucs!

Witch would explain why he did well with Garcia, Garcia was out of the pocket and could find Bryant easier.

Yeah, it's a miracle a guy that runs bad routes gets 1,200 yds and 8 td's. how many times did we see Bryant run wide open down the sideline but spaghetti arm Garcia could not get the ball there

1bucfanjeff,

You don't have to wait to find out. It's a bad decision right now. As the great Parcells has said many times:

"You don't just get rid of a guy, unless you have someone better to replace him with."

Bryant is NOT an addition by subtraction. His only crime was being honest - that the Bucs passing game was terrible last season.

That's funny , Bill Parcells did get rid of Bryant in Dallas!!

BTW, he's old - ish for our rebuilding program, his knees are even older, and he'll be overpaid by somebody looking for the "missing piece". He had a great year 2008, but too risky to pay BIG $$$$ longterm. PERIOD. (Most teams agree as he still hasn't signed with anyone).

Bryant is a good player that I would have liked to have kept. But I don't know him personally to be able to judge how he fit with the team. I know this, there is probably something to his inability to stick with an organization that has little to do with his play on the field. Same with malcontent "T"oo "O"bnoxious.

It is a mistake letting Bryant go. No question. The WR core has taken a major hit and even if they address it via the draft, or a trade, you've still got the chemistry that will be lacking between the new group of WR's and Freeman.

This is setting up to be a worse year than last year Bucs fans. The rebuilding process may take longer than expected.

I think JF is write in his most recent posting of the chat that took place yesterday when he said one can make a good argument that the team will actually be worse this upcoming year versus last year. I agree with him there. I think they will be worse, even with what looks to be an easier schedule than last year. I really do.
