The Bucs have been one of the NFL teams that have really embraced alternate looks when it comes to their uniforms over the past decade. But will Tampa Bay keep evolving and unveil a third alternate helmet next year?
The league sent out a memo to all clubs on Wednesday night stating that teams could adopt a third alternate helmet for the 2025 season. For teams undergoing a logo and uniform rebranding this year, they can debut and wear a third alternate helmet in 2024.
Tampa Bay changed from its original Bucco Bruce winking pirate logo and Florida orange and white color scheme from 1976 to red and pewter colors with a pewter helmet featuring a skull and crossed swords on red battle flag in 1997. But in 2009, the team brought back the original Bucco Bruce helmet and orange jerseys for a throwback game, and that turned into an annual event until after the 2012 season when the NFL adopted a one-helmet rule that brought that tradition to an end.

The team unveiled a new pewter alternate jersey in 2020, which Tampa Bay now wears once per year. And Tampa Bay brought the throwbacks back in 2023 once the league lifted the one-helmet rule.
Tampa Bay now has four different looks in play with their classic red and white jerseys, which is the team’s primary look, the throwback orange jerseys and the newer pewter jerseys.
But could a third alternate helmet be coming for next year in Tampa Bay?
With the team not yet committing to a throwback uniform game for the 2024 season, it’s doubtful the organization would have any comment on this new rule from the NFL, especially since it just came out on Wednesday night.
What Would A Third Bucs Alternate Helmet Look Like?
Riddell, an official helmet partner of the NFL, has made alternate helmets for sale, but the team has not officially adopted a third helmet – as of yet. Would Tampa Bay go with another colored helmet, such as orange or red?

Because of the Florida heat the Bucs may not want to go with a black helmet unless they use it for night games or later in the season when the temperature drops. Perhaps a matte finish like this slate colored one that is more light grey than pewter?
A more traditional-looking alternate could simply be a white helmet with the current red flag logo instead of using the white helmet just for the Bucco Bruce throwback logo.
@BruceArians ….Can we use this as an alternate helmet and uniform scheme the 2019 season?? Asking for #Bucs Fans. pic.twitter.com/QWgX6SvBgA

Here is what the white helmet with the red battle flag would look like with current red jersey and white pants.

Tampa Bay fan and graphic designer Samer Ali, host of the popular Loose Cannons podcast always comes through with some amazing alternate looks for Tampa Bay. Here are four alternate helmets, including a metallic orange and metallic red helmet, a matte black helmet and a white helmet – all featuring the sword and crossed skulls logo with the black and white helmets also featuring the red battle flag.
