Latest Bucs Headlines

After two straight wins on the road, the 6-6 Bucs return to Raymond James Stadium on Sunday for their “Red Out” game against the 2-10 Las Vegas Raiders. Tampa Bay will be looking for a third straight win (and some help from Minnesota in order to reclaim the top spot in the NFC South) while Vegas comes to town hoping to avoid a ninth consecutive loss.

The Bucs are in “playoff mode” with five games to go in the 2024 regular season. They’re tied atop the NFC South with the Falcons as both teams are 6-6, but Atlanta has the head-to-head tiebreaker. That means Tampa Bay needs to finish with a better record to win the division again. And because of the way the playoff landscape looks in the NFC, four-peating as division champions may be the only path to a fifth straight playoff appearance.

The Raiders are next in line for the Bucs’ streak of “must-win” games, and the fans at Raymond James Stadium are sure to be loud and ready to welcome their team back for their first home game since Nov. 10. The “Red Out” theme and the fact that the uniform matchup on the field will remind the Buccaneer faithful of Super Bowl XXXVII should help, as should the stakes.

As usual, there are other storylines to follow in this Week 14 game, and that’s the reason we’re here right now. As we do every week here on PewterReport.com, it’s now time to take a look at what else is on the line during this week’s game. Of course, we’re talking about some of the records and milestones that some Bucs are moving toward.

Last week, Baker Mayfield joined Tom Brady as the only quarterbacks in franchise history to throw for 25+ touchdowns in consecutive seasons, while Mike Evans moved ahead of Hines Ward and Charlie Joiner to reach 27th on the NFL’s list of all-time receiving yards leaders. Evans also became the 41st player in league history to reach 800 career receptions.

Here’s where everything stands heading into Week 14:

Baker Mayfield

Mayfield needs one passing touchdown to pass Tom Brady (25 in 2022) and Josh Freeman (25 in 2010) and tie Brad Johnson (26 in 2003) for 7th-most single-season passing touchdowns in Bucs history.

With one rushing touchdown, Mayfield can tie Doug Williams (4 in 1980, 4 in 1981) and Josh Freeman (4 in 2011) for 4th-most single-season rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in franchise history.

Two passing touchdowns will tie Mayfield with Josh Freeman (27 in 2012) for 6th-most single-season passing touchdowns in team history. With three more, he’ll tie himself (28 in 2023) and Jameis Winston (28 in 2016) for 4th-most.

Mayfield needs one touchdown of any kind to tie himself (29 in 2023) and Jameis Winston (29 in 2016) for 4th-most single-season offensive touchdowns in Bucs history.

Mike Evans

Evans is 479 yards away from surpassing the 1,000-yard receiving mark for the 11th straight season, which would tie Jerry Rice for the longest such streak in NFL history. He needs to average 95.8 yards per game over the final five games to get there.

Sunday will be Evans’ 164th game as a Buc, tying him with Pro Football Hall of Famer and Bucs Ring of Honor member John Lynch for 7th-most in franchise history.

Evans needs 87 more receiving yards to pass Jimmy Smith (12,287) for 26th-most in league history, while 91 more yards will move him ahead of former teammate Antonio Brown (12,291) for 25th-most all-time.

With eight more receptions, Evans will pass Roddy White (808) for the 40th-most in NFL history.

Evans is three total touchdowns away from tying Tim Brown and Don Hutson (105) for 21st-most total touchdowns in league history.

Cade Otton

Otton needs one reception to pass Tim Wright (54 in 2013) for 7th-most by a tight end in a single season in team history. Two more will move him ahead of Rob Gronkowski (55 in 2021) for 6th-most, and four more will move him ahead of Cameron Brate (57 in 2016) for 5th-most. With nine more receptions, Otton will pass Jackie Harris (62 in 1995) for 4th-most.

Otton is also 28 receiving yards away from passing Calvin Magee (1,379) for 9th-most by a tight end in Bucs history.

Rachaad White

White is still one receiving touchdown away from passing Warrick Dunn and James Wilder (9) for 2nd-most all-time by a Bucs running back. Only Mike Alstott (13) has more.

White is also 49 receiving yards away from passing Charles Sims (1,190) for 6th-most by a running back in team history.

Bucky Irving

Irving is on track to become Tampa Bay’s first 1,000-yard rusher since Doug Martin in 2015. He is 268 yards away from the 1,000-yard mark, needing to average 53.6 yards per game over the final five games.

Will Gholston

Sunday will be Gholston’s 182nd game with the Bucs, leaving him one behind Paul Gruber (183) for 5th-most in team history.

Vita Vea

Vea is four sacks away from passing Jason Pierre-Paul and Brad Culpepper (33.0) for 9th-most in franchise history.

Lavonte David

Sunday will be David’s 194th game as a Buc, which is 3rd-most all-time behind only Derrick Brooks (224) and Ronde Barber (241).

David is three sacks away from passing David Logan (39.0) for 6th-most in franchise history. He also needs five passes defensed to pass Carlton Davis III (73) for 4th-most in team history.

Jamel Dean

Dean remains six passes defensed away from passing Aqib Talib (54) for 7th-most in team history.

Antoine Winfield Jr.

Winfield needs one more sack to tie Adam Archuleta, Bill Bates and Roman Harper (18.0) for 11th-most by a defensive back since sacks became an official stat in 1982. He needs three more to tie Charles Woodson (20.0) for 10th-most.
